Upgrading This section describes how to upgrade from previous release of the ECCO. Before upgrading, be sure to close all other Windows applications. Upgrading from ECCO 1.x, 2.x or 3.0: If you are upgrading from version 1.x, 2.x, or 3.0 of ECCO, please see the appropriate section below for instructions. Files and workgroups created with ECCO Pro versions 3.01, 3.02, and 3.03 are fully compatible with version 4.01 and will not need to be upgraded, as the formats have not changed. If you are upgrading from version 3.01, 3.02, or 3.03, the sections on upgrading files and workgroups do not apply to you, and you may begin installation now. Upgrading Non-Shared Files from ECCO 1.x, 2.x, or 3.0: When converting files to a new version of any application, it is always a good idea to make backups first. o Install ECCO Pro 4.01 as described above. Whenever an older format ECCO file is opened, you will be prompted to upgrade the file to the ECCO Pro 4.01 format. Note: ECCO Pro 4.01 files cannot be opened by versions of ECCO prior to 3.01. In addition, there is no way to reverse an upgrade of an earlier version's file. If the .ECO file is upgraded, Autosave (both normal Autosave and Autosave on File Close) is disabled until the file has been manually saved. When you close the new file you will be prompted to save changes allowing you to choose whether to make the upgrade permanent. Upgrading Workgroups and Shared Files from ECCO 1.x and 2.x: When converting files to a new version of any application, it is always a good idea to make backups first. Note: Due to the numerous changes since these versions, it is likely that workgroups and shared files created in ECCO version 1.0 or 2.0 will not upgrade properly to the 4.01 format. 1. Before installing your ECCO Pro 4.01 upgrade, have the owners of all shared files disconnect their local copies by going to File, Network, Shared File Status and choosing the Disconnect Keeping Local Copies of Public Information button. If that option is grayed out, check the Current Local File listed at the top of the dialog box. The user is probably using a common .ECO file instead of a local .ECO file. 2. Choose OK to exit the Shared File Status dialog box. 3. Select Save As from the File menu to save a local copy of the shared file, then disconnect it as instructed above. If you have verified that you are in a local .ECO file and are unable to choose the Disconnect Keeping Local Copies of Public Information option, contact ECCO Technical Support for assistance. 4. After all shared files have been disconnected by their owners, delete all files from the existing ECCO Workgroup Directory. This directory will be on a network or shared drive and contains the common .ECO files as well as files with extensions .ECG, .ECB, .ECC, .BK*, and also the old ECCO_GRP files. When you are finished, the directory should be empty. 5. Install the ECCO Pro 4.01 upgrade. 6. As each user opens ECCO Pro 4.01 for the first time, they should open their ECCO file and answer Yes when ECCO prompts to upgrade to the new file format. The user should then save the file using Save from the File menu. 7. The user should then select Workgroup Settings from the File menu and follow the wizard instructions to connect to the new ECCO Workgroup Directory. The first user who connects to the ECCO Workgroup Directory will establish the new workgroup by choosing Yes to Create A New Workgroup Directory. Subsequent users will choose No to Create A New Workgroup Directory and connect to the existing workgroup directory. 8. Each user should then choose Share from the File menu and follow the wizard instructions to share the file. Note: If the local (.ECO) file is open when the user re-connects to the ECCO Workgroup Directory, ECCO will prompt Do You Keep Your Main Calendar in This File? Choosing Yes will result in ECCO automatically sharing the file as a Main Calendar file with the default privilege of See Available Time For Group Scheduling. The user then needs to select Share from the File menu set the specific privileges they want for the file. Meeting resources created in version 2.0 will need to be re-created after version 4.01 has been installed and the new workgroup established. A backup and/or hard copy of any meeting resource calendars to be re-created should be made. Upgrading Workgroups and Shared Files from ECCO 3.0: ECCO Workgroups created in version 3.0 will need to be upgraded to be compatible with the new 4.01 format. Caution: Prior to upgrading ECCO Workgroups and shared files, it is advisable to back-up the entire ECCO Workgroup Directory and all local .ECO files. Upgrading Workgroups from Version 3.0: Note: This upgrade will require the use of the ECCO Workgroup Administrator (EWA), which can be installed from your Installation CD at: \Ecco32\Network\SetupEccoAdmin.exe 1. Before beginning the upgrade to 4.01, all users should respond to any pending group meeting requests and close out of ECCO. 2. Install the ECCO Pro 4.01 upgrade. 3. Before anyone attempts to run ECCO, the person acting as the ECCO Administrator needs to install the ECCO Workgroup Administrator utility. The EWA only needs to be installed once, on the workstation of your choice. After installing, double-click the adminapp.exe file. Choose the File Upgrade button and select the existing Workgroup Directory. Once the workgroup has been upgraded to 4.01 format, the next step is to upgrade the shared files. Upgrading Shared Files from Version 3.0: An ECCO .ECG (shared master) file is upgraded when the file's owner goes online with it. Usually this happens automatically when a connected .ECO file is opened. Only the file's owner can upgrade the .ECG file. If the user is the .ECG file's owner, ECCO will automatically try to upgrade the .ECG when they go online. The .ECG file upgrade requires exclusive access. If other users are active, a dialog box appears listing other users and telling the file owner that the other users must close the file before it can be upgraded. ECCO periodically checks the list and, if all users close the file, permits the upgrade to continue. If the owner is not logged in to mail or not connected to the same workgroup that the .ECG file resides in, they may not be recognized as the owner of the file. If the owner's mail login name or the mail system itself has changed since the file was originally shared, ECCO may not recognize the person as being the owner of the file. If the owner of the file is unable to upgrade the shared file, the user should choose Properties from the File menu, then disconnect the file. The user should then re-share the file. If the user who opens a copy of the shared file is not the owner of the .ECG file, a dialog box appears indicating the master file cannot be upgraded and that changes will not be synchronized until the master file is upgraded. If the .ECO file was upgraded when opened, a chance to close the .ECO file is presented so that the upgrade is not saved and the file can be used with an earlier version of ECCO. If the .ECO file was previously upgraded and saved, the user will be unable to go online with the file until the owner of the .ECG file upgrades it. If the a local .ECO file is upgraded when opened by a user who isn't the file's owner, and they did not attempt to go online (and, therefore, do not know if the .ECG file has been upgraded), they are warned that the master file may not have been upgraded and that they will not be able to synchronize with it if it has not. The opportunity to close the file is given so that the upgrade is not permanent. Users can cancel the upgrade dialog box. If they do so, ECCO will report that the .ECG file was not upgraded, and that another chance to upgrade when the file will occur when the file is opened again. Files that have been set up for synchronization, but have not been shared have no real identity of ownership and are upgraded without any ownership check. After upgrading a workgroup directory, files that have not been converted to 4.01 format are hidden. The owner of the file will need to open their local of copy of these files and ECCO will upgrade them as described above. Files should then be visible by selecting Open Shared from the File menu. C. Uninstalling ECCO Pro 4.01 1. From Windows Control Panel, double click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 2. Select NetManage ECCO Pro and choose the Add/Remove button. 3. Choose the Automatic button to allow Windows to remove all ECCO files without confirmation or choose the Custom button to control which files are deleted. II.
